About the event
On April 23, join us for an intimate evening of personal anecdotes—perhaps stories you have never heard before—from Tamás Vitray’s most cherished interviews, unforgettable interviewees, and legendary sports broadcasts.
Tamás Vitray is a true television icon in Hungary. His name is synonymous with decades of television journalism, talk shows, and Olympic sports broadcasting. He is a Kossuth Prize laureate, recipient of the Prima Primissima Award, an honorary lifetime member of Hungarian Television, and Emeritus Professor of the University of Theatre and Film Arts (SZFE).
Originally aspiring to become a film director, Vitray found his calling in television in 1958—and knew immediately that this was his path. Over the decades, he became one of the defining voices of Hungarian broadcasting. There is hardly a sport he has not commented on; he reported from major international competitions and covered a total of twenty-one Olympic Games, both Summer and Winter. For many viewers, entire sports—such as figure skating or ice hockey—became familiar through his commentary.
Beyond sports, he hosted quiz shows, political programmes, radio talk shows, and numerous in-depth television interviews. The Hungarian Television archive lists approximately 4,000 programmes associated with his name.
At Villa11’s “Just Stories…” evening, Tamás Vitray shares rarely heard personal stories about his most memorable interviews, interview subjects, and iconic sports broadcasts.
