Our Paths to Happiness
-
Presentation by Gábor Szendi

17 June 2025 18:00

Gábor Szendi shares with Villa 11 guests his views on true happiness, based on his scientific knowledge, and also reveals its secret. How can we take control of our destiny and learn to live with it? What does it mean to be truly happy? The inspiring lecture will certainly answer these questions.
According toGábor Szendi, author and psychologist, the pleasure-centred, materialistic idea of happiness has become detached from the complex and rich experience of overcoming obstacles that we all have evolved through evolution, and is the true key to happiness. Strange as it may sound, happiness is not idle rest, but a continuous journey of sacrificial work, of doubt and hope, of recognition and neglect, of success and failure.

MORE

We must look for the root and development of all human emotions in the evolution of man. There are two types of happiness, one is hedonic happiness, which is the bait of consumer society to make people drudge (eating, drinking, sex, excitement), the other is eudaimonic happiness, which is the reward of working for self-actualization, fulfillment. The latter is the real human happiness we are born for, but which is hard to achieve in any age.
In our modern world we all chase happiness: we toil every day for a brighter career, a better life, a holiday abroad, a new car - but do we feel happy when our desires are fulfilled? Do the family photos of our envied friends tell the truth, where even the dog looks perfect, or is it all just an illusion?
Gábor Szendi will help you find the answers, join us this evening.
